Elementary School Ms Heireb Quarter

UTILIZING WOODEN FLOOR ON WALLS

Located in the city’s historic Heritage Quarter, Qatar Academy Msheireb forms part of a large sustainable regeneration project in Doha. The redevelopment programme, which focused on combining cultural heritage and local traditions with modern design, also includes a mosque, a museum, cultural centre and residential complex, all designed by architects John McAslan + Partners.

Sustainability was central to the Msheireb Downtown Doha project, and every material specified had to fulfil strict sustainability criteria. For the interior, Junckers solid oak two-strip flooring was used extensively as wall cladding, adding a warm, natural element to the colourful scheme. The natural acoustic qualities found in wood will help reduce the sounds of a busy school environment and the unique grain pattern in the timber adds depth and texture.

Wood contributes to an even and balanced indoor climate as it helps maintain temperature in a room and reduces static from any electrical equipment. All Junckers’ floors hold the Danish Indoor Climate label and have undergone extensive degassing and odour testing to ensure there are no chemical substances in the flooring. Junckers also complies with EU legislation REACH.

The Architect implemented the soft values in this project.
What does it do for us? It creates the soft ambience. Improves acoustic and stimulates and calms the eye and body as the wood breathes with us.

The flooring contractor was Jadara Trading & Contracting of Doha.
